Description
There once was a young peasant named Juan Diego. He reported seeing a vision of a beautiful woman on December 9, 1531 while walking near Mexico City. The lady spoke to Juan, telling him to tell the bishop to build a new church. When Juan told this to the Bishop, he was asked to return with proof as the story was too unbelievable. Juan saw the woman again and was told to bring roses back as the sign that he had seen her as well as to signify the importance of building a new church. When he delivered the roses to the Bishop, much to the surprise of both menthe roses unveiled a picture of the young lady was on Juans shirt beneath his poncho. The image is now known as The Virgin of Guadalupe and is one of Mexicos most popular cultural and religious images.
